07-08 Season

The Sonics want to stay in Seattle, and they got lucky in the draft lottery. For ’07-08, they added super star Kevin Durant, which will generate enough buzz to keep them out of Oklahoma. Players like Luke Ridnour and Chris Wilcox ‘s numbers have increased, and should be great compliments to Durant.  Ray Allen continues to be great on the court – providing stability to a team that has old stars leaving, new stars coming, and looming change of location. Ticket buyers can definitely expect excitement from the Sonics, and they have the talent to go far in the future – and fans can hope that future continues in rainy Seattle.

Team History

One bright spot in the otherwise dreary, rainy city of Seattle is its professional basketball team, the Seattle SuperSonics. The Seattle SuperSonics, based in state of Washington, is in the Northwest Division of the National Basketball Association. Basketball fans just love to buy up those Seattle SuperSonics tickets as fast as they can get their hands on them. Based in KeyArena, (formerly the Seattle Center Coliseum), the Seattle SuperSonics players provide first-rate hoop excitement to all who enjoy watching the game.

Hands down, the best year of the Seattle SuperSonics franchise was the year it went all the way to the NBA Championships in 1979. From their humble beginnings in 1967 to its pinnacle in 1979, it only took the Seattle SuperSonics twelve years to reach championship status. The Seattle SuperSonics made its first playoff appearance in 1975 then went on to be in the finals back to back in 1978 and 1979. The Seattle SuperSonics’ string of success was largely due to the undying dedication of head coach, Lenny Wilkens. Wilkens knew the game to basketball through and through. Not only did he excel as a coach, being NBA’s career leader in coaching wins and losses, he was also one heck of a player. He was drafted sixth overall by the St. Louis Hawks in the 1960 NBA Draft. Quite popular for his incredible basketball talent, he later went on to play for the Seattle SuperSonics (1968-1972), Cleveland Cavaliers (1972-1974) and Portland Trail Blazers (1974-1975). He was an all-star player an unprecedented nine times. When Wilkens was put out to pasture in 1975, he decided that his destiny with basketball was not yet fulfilled. He took off his player hat and put on his coaching hat as the full-time coach of the Trail Blazers.
